Some days I want to make something. Some days I want to sit on the couch and watch Netflix.
I don’t need a mission statement to make the damn thing. I don’t need to turn resting into a project either.
What do I mean by “spoons”?
Spoon Theory is Christine Miserandino's analogy for limited energy. She developed it while explaining living with lupus to a friend: everyday activities cost spoons, and spending them on one thing leaves fewer for another. Read Miserandino's original essay, reproduced by Lymphoma Action (PDF) .
I use “out of spoons” to mean I’ve reached my limit. There may still be things on the list. That doesn’t mean I have the energy to do them.
Rest, or stuck?
Sometimes I’m resting. Sometimes I want to get up and do something but can’t seem to get started. I’m still figuring out the difference in my own day.
I don’t always know straight away.
